"WILD WILD WEST"

I like Barry Sonnenfeld's work. He's a director who directs in a style contingent
to the kinda film he's making. For movies like "The Addams Family" and "Men
in Black," he directs in a wacky style. For the more mature stuff like "For
Love or Money" and "Get Shorty," he's more restrained, but still making things
interesting. With "Wild Wild West," Barry Sonnenfeld didn't know what to do.
He was given a crap script (the kind written by too many different writers)
and did what he could. Sadly, he fell flat on his face.
Will Smith
plays "James T. West" (like "Mission: Impossible," this movie spits on
the faces of those who may have been fans of the TV show it was based
on), and he's definitely a charismatic enough actor to carry a movie,
but this script was too crappy. It was hopeless.
Salma Hayek
as eye candy couldn't save this movie. Not even the great Kenneth Branagh
could.
