"THE WEDDING SINGER"

The Wedding Singer

Though I think that Adam Sandler is one of the funniest people alive, I never had any interest in seeing his last couple of movies ("Billy Madison," "Happy Gilmore," and "Bulletproof"). They just all looked too lame, and besides that, he's a really bad actor. Still, whether it was the '80s setting (which was TOTALLY unnecessary), seeing the old lady doing "Rapper's Delight" in the movie trailer, or just the simple storyline, I was attracted to this movie. And it was as I expected: A cute, predictable, entertaining piece of fluff.

As I mentioned above, the 80s setting was unnecessary, but it DID add to much of the humor. I actually wore that stuff? UGH!

Drew Barrymore was cute as Adam Sandler's love interest, Matthew Glave was funny as the slimy Don Johnson wanna-be who was Adam Sandler's competition, Alexis Arquette was hilarious as George, but it's Steve Buscemi who stands out. He's in it for only a few moments, though.

The script was written by Tim Herlihy who also wrote "Billy Madison" and "Happy Gilmore." He seems to know how to write for Adam Sandler. It's directed by Frank Coraci who's pretty new to feature filmmaking (he's got another Adam Sandler film coming up called "The Waterboy"), but he does a good job with comedy.

"The Wedding Singer" is another romantic comedy where you know exactly what's gonna happen in the end. But it manages to entertain you, and make you laugh at some of the things you may remember about the '80s.

Okay, maybe setting it in the '80s wasn't COMPLETELY unnecessary.
