I like this movie, and it's interesting how despite not seeming like a David lynch movie, it was filled with Lynch-isms... like, odd little things here and there. Hard to explain, ya gotta see for yourself. I guess I didn't expect it to be as sweet as it was, like, it was too happy. But I liked it anyway.
The script was written by John Roach (his debut) and Mary Sweeney (her debut script, but she's worked in movies before, with David Lynch in particular... she's been a producer, editor, script supervisor... oh yeah, she and David Lynch also have a son together). It's a cute, sweet script, and I think that it was really nifty that David Lynch got to direct it. His unique vision made it more interesting.
The main guy in the movie is played by Richard Farnsworth. He's an old dude who looks like he's been around, and he has the perfect look for the role. Sissy Spacek as his daughter is excellent, as expected, but her speech impediment is a little irritating. There's a cameo at the end, or at least I think it is, and I'll keep it a secret for you.
Yeah, it was
strange to see THIS kinda film made by David Lynch, but it WAS a nice movie.
There's a fair share of slow parts, and I probably would have liked a darker
edge to it, but this is still a really good David Lynch movie, and strangely
enough, it's one that the whole family can enjoy.
