Anyone who's worked in an office environment will be able to relate to "Office Space." As well as anyone who worked at "T.G.I. Friday's" (I didn't, but I knew a girl who did). All of the observations are right on the nose, as well as the frustrations.
"Office Space" stars Ron Livingston (one of the lesser-known guys in "Swingers"), and he does really good considering that his character is pretty bland. His co-workers in the movie are far more interesting. My favorite was played by David Herman (from "Mad TV," and he's a voice in Mike Judge's "King of the Hill") as the geeky hip-hopper. His moment during the opening sequence is priceless. Ajay Naidu is great as the hot-tempered guy with bad English. Then there's "Milton," the character in which this movie is based. He's played by Stephen Root (also a "King of the Hill" voice), and he's funny, but kinda annoying, too. He's a supporting character here (if even that), unlike in the short films. Gary Cole (the star of TVs "Midnight Caller" and "American Gothic," and he was the "Brady" dad in the "Brady Bunch" movies) was excellent as the upper management asshole. Jennifer Aniston is in the movie too, and she's yummy-looking as usual. Oh, and her acting was good too, I guess.
Mike Judge proved that he can direct well, but the story is as thin as they come. I think "A Night at the Roxbury" had more of a plot (that's not a dis... regular visitors know that I love that movie). Still, I did laugh a lot.
There's not
a hell of a lotta realism in this movie, and it's pretty simple, but this
is written and directed by the guy who created "Beavis and Butt-Head," so
you can't expect "Casablanca." But if you wanna have a good time for a little
under 90 minutes, check this movie out.
