"THE NEGOTIATOR"

The Negotiator

Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey are great actors. If there is any reason to see this movie, it's to see these two powerhouses do their thing. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad movie, but it's nothing spectacular. It's a formulaic action movie where the dialogue is the good parts and the action is the slow parts in between.

Well-directed by F. Gary Gray ("Friday," "Set It Off"), "The Negotiator" is an okay movie with great actors. It's just that the script is nothing out of this world. Credit goes to the film's director and the incredible two leads for making it entertaining as hell.

As far as supporting roles, the great Paul Giamatti offers comic relief while the late, great J.T. Walsh adds a bit of mystery as one of Jackson's hostages. You'll also see David Morse in a role VERY different from his role as Jodie Foster's father in "Contact."

Watching Jackson and Spacey go head to head is by far the most intense and exciting parts of the movie. Unfortunately, they aren't as often as you might like. Still, when they DO go at it... DAAAAAAMN!

Rereading this review, I realize that it may seem more negative than I wanted to. It's just frustrating that a movie that I liked coulda been even better. Oh well. Maybe in the sequel.
