"THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY"

There's Something About Mary

Sometimes, you get a movie where the funny stuff is so good, you kinda wish that the plot would be pushed aside. That's what I was thinking during "There's Something About Mary." The actual plot wasn't NEARLY as good as the gags. That doesn't mean that the storyline was completely pathetic, just that it wasn't really what I was interested in compared to the other stuff.

"There's Something About Mary" was directed by the Farrelly Brothers, the same guys who did "Dumb and Dumber" (which I liked) and "Kingpin" (which I liked a lot). Like the other two, the humor in this movie is crude, vulgar, juvenile, and more than anything else, funny. The script was originally written by Ed Dectar & John J. Strauss (this is the first screenplay by both of them), but then the Farrelly Brothers rewrote it. The parts that they wrote is pretty obvious.

The cast is really good here. Cameron Diaz is fabulous as "Mary," the woman who every guy wants. Ben Stiller hits the right note as the dorky "Ted," and Matt Dillon is good as "Pat," the freaky detective-like stalker guy.

You WILL laugh during this movie. A lot. The humor is pretty gross, but you HAVE been warned.
