The movie is based on the book of the same name, and unbelievably, it's a true story. "The Lady Chablis," who was the best thing in the movie, actually plays herself here. This is her feature film debut as an actress, but every moment she's on the screen is great. She takes command and you pay attention. Clint Eastwood (wearing his director hat for this movie) made a wise decision by letting her play herself. No one coulda played her better, and I think that "The Lady Chablis" would be the first to tell you that.
Unfortunately, when you strip away all it's quirkiness, it's a standard Grisham-type film, and not even a very good one. I think they shoulda spent more time on the wacky people living there, but I don't think Hollywood woulda cared much for that.
"Midnight
in the Garden of Good and Evil" is a very entertaining movie, but it coulda
been a great one. From what I hear, the book is a masterpiece and it's much
better than the movie. I think I'll go check it out!
