"TOMORROW NEVER DIES"

Tomorrow Never Dies

The problem that I have with "James Bond" movies is that to me, they're all the same. I'll admit, I'm not a very big "James Bond" fan, but I DO think that a couple of the movies were good. Anyway, I'm not a 007 fan, so perhaps I'm not the right person to review the film. So if you like "James Bond" movies, disregard this review. If you don't care either way, then here we go:

I think that Pierce Brosnan is a great "James Bond." He carries himself perfectly in this movie. To me, he IS "James Bond." That being said, Michelle Yeoh is the best thing about the movie. Well, her and the nifty visuals during the opening credits. The obligatory scene where "Q" shows off the nifty gadgets is there, and it's cool. Teri Hatcher looks good, but despite what you might think, she's NOT the new "Bond girl." As a villain, Jonathan Pryce is perfect. He chews his scenes beautifully, perfectly done for a "James Bond" villain. Oh yeah, Joe Don Baker (anyone see the "Mystery Science Theater 3000" version of "Mitchell"?) returns as Jack Wade, the poorly dressed American guy who helps James out occasionally.

I really liked the characters, and the chemistry they all have is great, but the action scenes are pretty lame. Standard stuff. The only action scene I really liked involved a helicopter. Also, there's a great fight scene where "Wai Lin" (Michelle Yeoh) kicks serious ass. Personally, I think that there should be a series of "Wai Lin" movies the same way they have "James Bond" movies.

I can't say that I totally disliked the movie, because there was so much I DID like. The potential was there. As for Michelle Yeoh, she's already a huge star in Asia, but she's definitely got what it takes to be a star in America. I look forward to seeing more from her.
