"THE SIXTH DAY"

The Sixth Day

So I just went and saw the new Arnold Schwarzenegger action movie. Ho-hum. Actually, I guess it was a pretty good movie. It's just that I think it's time for Arnold to hang it up, ya know? I don't buy him as an action star anymore. Maybe he should do comedies from now on. He's good at comedy. But unless it's a great script, he shouldn't bother with action movies anymore. Well, unless it's a James Cameron movie. Whenever Arnold and James Cameron get together, it's great stuff. Look at "The Terminator," "Terminator 2," and "True Lies." All of those are incredible movies.

Oh, that reminds me. It's official. There WILL be a "Terminator 3," it WILL star Arnold Schwarzenegger, and now the bad news, James Cameron WON'T be involved. At all. He won't be writing it, directing it, or anything. That's horrible. That's like a new "Star Wars" movie without George Lucas! I think Arnold Schwarzenegger made a very, very bad decision to star in this movie without James Cameron directing it. I hope I'm wrong, though. I'd LOVE to be wrong. If "Terminator 3" ends up being an awesome movie, I'll gladly say I was wrong. But I don't see it happening. It's gotta be in the hands of a really great director for it to work. I think it would be awesome if Ridley Scott directed it. Think of how cool that would be. Ridley Scott directed the original "Alien," and James Cameron did the sequel, "Aliens," years later. Wouldn't it be nifty if Ridley Scott directed a sequel for a James Cameron movie? Last week, there was a rumor that David Fincher was gonna direct "Terminator 3." David Fincher is a great director. In case you don't know, he directed "Seven," "Fight Club," and coincidentally, "Alien 3." Too bad it was just a rumor.

Despite my ripping on Arnold earlier, "The Sixth Day" is a pretty good movie. It's not great, but it's pretty good. It's got some very cool special effects, I'll tellya THAT much. It's been compared to "Total Recall," but they're both very different movies. Yeah, like "Total Recall," this movie is set in the future, and like "Total Recall," Arnold Schwarzenegger is having a bit of an identity crisis, but that's where the similarities end. Rest assured, "The Sixth Day" is pretty original.

In "End of Days," I noticed that Arnold Schwarzenegger isn't really the best actor in the world. He used to be good, but with "End of Days," and now with "The Sixth Day," his acting seems very cheesy to me. There ARE some good performances, though. Tony Goldwyn, Michael Rapaport, and especially Robert Duvall (that man is brilliant), are all very good.

Roger Spottiswood directed "The Sixth Day," and this is another movie for his unusual combination of movies that include "Stop or My Mom Will Shoot," "Air America," "Turner & Hooch," "Shoot to Kill," and the James Bond flick, "Tomorrow Never Dies." I dunno, I just think it's a weird combination. Don't you? As for the writers, "The Sixth Day" was written by Cormac Wibberley & Marianne Wibberley. They wrote "Motel Blue" and "Garage Sale" together. Don't ask, I never heard of any of those movies.

This may seem like a negative review, but truth be told, I like this movie. It has some really good scenes, the story is good, and the special effects are very cool. I guess I just need to see Arnold in a really great movie again.
