I used to absolutely LOVE horror movies. I watched all of the "Friday the 13th" movies, all the "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies... I mean, I was really into it. Then I got older, I guess. Those movies kinda suck now (but I AM looking forward to the upcoming "Freddy vs. Jason" movie). I thought "Scream" was good, but I liked the concept better than the content (I think the sequel will be better, though).
Though I was disappointed with the movie, that mostly had to do with the unoriginal plot. On the plus side, despite the fact that it's so predictable, it's not a bad ride. Jim Gillespie, making his feature film directing debut, does a good job keeping the film going. It doesn't really have any slow moments. Also, the young cast is very talented.
There are a couple of scenes with Anne Heche that are really good. She plays a backwoods type, but avoids the stereotype. She's someone with a lot on her mind, but you can't really tell what it is. Her scenes are the most intriguing, probably.
There were
some moments during dialogue exchanges where you get a hint of what Kevin
Williamson brought to "Scream." I have a feeling that he wrote this before
he wrote "Scream," because watching "I Know What You Did Last Summer," you
can kinda see the gears turning.
