Though I'd never condone doing it, I snuck in to see "The Family Man." I rarely ever sneak into movies. The only other time I can remember doing it is for "Teaching Mrs. Tingle" a little while ago, and I don't remember ever doing it before then. But I'm broke. I paid to see "Cast Away," and after seeing that, I snuck in to see "The Family Man." I know, I know, I'm an evil person. Please accept my sincerest apologies. I won't do it again. Well, I'll TRY not to do it again. I'm still pretty damn broke, though.
I'm not sure why I wanted to see this movie. After all, the premise is way overused, and it has Nicolas Cage in another chick flick (I still have nightmares over the horrible "City of Angels"). But the trailer got to me, I guess. Either that, or Téa Leoni did. She's really hot in this movie. She's married to David Duchovny, ya know. He's a lucky man.
It's a pretty good cast in "The Family Man." Nicolas Cage stars, and thankfully, he does a good job. He was so freakin' bad in "City of Angels," ugh. He can't possibly be proud of himself for his performance in that movie. He's a great actor, but in "City of Angels," he was horrible. In this movie, he's very good, though. As I'd mentioned, this movie also stars David Duchovny's wife, Téa Leoni (star of "Deep Impact"). She's very watchable. She does a really good acting job, and she's quite yummy looking. There's also Jeremy Piven (star of "Cupid," an excellent, beautifully written TV show, that, sadly, ABC canceled after only a few episodes), who's very good, and Don Cheadle (one of the best actors on the planet... he was "Buck" in "Boogie Nights"), whose role is small, but as usual, he kicks ass.
Strangely enough, this chick flick was directed by Brett Ratner, the guy who directed "Rush Hour," and "Money Talks" (as well as the upcoming "Rush Hour 2").This is an interesting change of pace for him, but he did good. Way to go, Brett. As for the writers, it's David Diamond & David Weissman (together, they helped write "Evolution," which is the big new Ivan Reitman movie coming out this summer... Weissman helped write the Corey Feldman/Corey Haim flick, "Dream a Little Dream 2"... ugh).
"The Family
Man" isn't great, but it's a light, harmless, entertaining movie that
I enjoyed. The best thing about it is Téa Leoni. She's hot.
