So there we were sitting next to each other. She was drooling over Sean Connery, and I was drooling over Catherine Zeta-Jones. Disturbing, huh?
Despite the fact that he's so freakin' old, Sean Connery easily carries this movie. He has this incredible charisma, and he glows onscreen. Several years ago, I had a girlfriend who was 19, and like my mom, she thought Sean Connery was a hottie. He may be an old fart, but when I reach his age, I hope I have what he has. Hell, I wish I had it now! Catherine Zeta-Jones was good, but I couldn't really tell because I was distracted by her gorgeousness. She's British, but in this movie, she spoke American. She tried, but it wasn't perfect. As for the rest of the cast, there was Ving Rhames in another solid performance, the great character actor Maury Chaykin, and Will Patton (he was Bruce Willis' friend in "Armageddon"). The thing is, Will Patton is a very WASPish-looking guy, and he played a guy named "Hector Cruz." That was like when Paul Gleason (who is quite the white guy) played a character named "Dwayne T. Robinson" in "Die Hard."
What the hell am I babbling about? Have I even started the actual review yet? Anyway...
I like seeing hi-tech thieves do their thing in movies, and there was a lotta that in this movie. Also, there's this cool scene where the two main characters do strange things to prepare for a big heist, and that's soon followed by an even cooler scene that shows exactly why they were preparing that way. Nifty stuff.
"Entrapment" was written by Ron Bass (one of the best and busiest writers in Hollywood), Michael Hertzberg, and William Broyles Jr. (who helped write "Apollo 13"). It was directed by Jon Amiel, who directed the underwhelming "Sommersby," "Copycat," and "The Man Who Knew Too Little" It's about time this guy had a hit.
I liked "Entrapment." It had a couple of slow moments, and it had an ending
that was WAY too "Hollywood," but it was entertaining, and had lotsa authentically
surprising twists and turns. My mom liked it more than I did, though.
