The best thing about "Bulworth" was Halle Berry. She looks great, and she proves to be a good actress (not that I doubted that). Also in the movie is one of my favorite actors working today, Don Cheadle. He does a good acting job, but I don't know if he had the right face for the role. As for the title character as played by Warren Beatty, he was great, and he was smart to cast himself.
In the middle of the movie, it's no longer believable. It goes from daring to ridiculous halfway through, and it gets downright laughable. When Bulworth starts to rap at his speeches and gains respect that way, the whole "suspension of disbelief" thing didn't carry over.
I know that it seems like I'm trashing the movie, but I DID kinda like it. I guess I'm just frustrated at what it coulda been rather than what it was. I think that the message that Warren Beatty wanted to get across (he wrote and directed the movie) coulda been done while maintaining some believability. Also, the assassination plot got tired really quick.
I think that
this film coulda been bold, daring, and provocative. It DID start out that
way. Unfortunately, it IS a Hollywood film, and there are only so many rules
they're willing to break. It was a pretty good movie, but it coulda been
so much more.
