"Buffalo '66" is Vincent Gallo's debut as a writer and director. As an actor, he's had big roles in small movies ("Palookaville," "Truth or Consequences, N.M.," "The Funeral," "The House of Spirits"), but the closest thing to a big movie that he's ever been in is "The Perez Family." He's got a reputation for being an arrogant asshole, but based on this film as well as a couple of his quotes that I read, he's also a woman-hater. See this movie and you'll know what I mean. The way he treats Christina Ricci's character is pathetic.
A lotta pretty big names have small roles in this film. Anjelica Huston, Ben Gazzara, Mickey Rourke... I guess Gallo has some clout. He IS a great actor, I won't take that away from him. And this movie does have a few amusing moments, but not enough.
Christina
Ricci is the best thing in this movie. She's keeping herself busy taking
roles in small, independent films. Smart girl. In a few years, despite her
not having "Hollywood" looks, she's gonna be pretty popular.
